Nagaland Police Continue Search for Robert Kikon, Believed to Be in Southeast Asia

Nagaland Police are continuing efforts to locate Robert Kikon, a wanted accused in a POCSO case, who is believed to have left India and moved through several Southeast Asian countries.

Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma said on Saturday that police had previously traced Kikon to Cambodia and later to Vietnam. According to the DGP, Kikon allegedly entered Vietnam using a different passport.

Speaking to reporters in Dimapur, Sharma said police have now received information indicating that Kikon may have travelled to another country in Southeast Asia. However, his exact whereabouts have not yet been established.

“We are trying to follow up,” Sharma said, adding that police remain hopeful of locating him.

Police Working to Establish His Whereabouts

Kikon has been wanted in connection with a case registered under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, along with Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

He reportedly went into hiding in October 2024 following allegations of sexual misconduct involving minors.

Sharma said locating Kikon remains the immediate priority, as international legal procedures can only begin once authorities establish where he is currently staying.

“If he has committed an offence, it would be better for him to come back to India and face the law on his own rather than keep running around,” the DGP said.

He also appealed to anyone who may have information about Kikon’s presence in India to inform the police.

Extradition Process May Be Required if He Is Abroad

The DGP explained that police have the authority to arrest a wanted accused anywhere within India if the person is traced there. The situation becomes more complicated when an accused is located outside the country.

Sharma said the first step is to establish Kikon’s precise location before the necessary legal process can be initiated.

He acknowledged that such proceedings can take time, particularly when authorities do not have confirmed information about an accused person’s location.

“We are trying to do our best,” Sharma said, stressing that police efforts to trace Kikon are continuing.

The DGP reiterated that if Kikon is found to be in India, Nagaland Police can take steps to apprehend him, while his return from another country would require the relevant international legal process.
