Wokha businesses to close until 2 pm on Tokhü Emong
The Wokha District Chamber of Commerce & Industry asks all business establishments to stay shut from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday for the Lotha festival.

WOKHA – The Wokha District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WDCC&I) has asked all business establishments to remain closed from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday, 7 November 2026, in observance of the Lotha Tokhü Emong celebration.
The instruction was issued in a digital circular dated 6 November 2026 and signed by WDCC&I President Vungathung C. Murry and General Secretary Z. Ponathung Kikon.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your co-operation and participation in the Lotha Tokhü Emong Celebration,” the chamber said in the circular, which closes with the message: “Wishing you all a joyful and safe festival!”
What the circular says
The closure covers six hours, from 8 am to 2 pm. The circular does not mention any restriction on trading after 2 pm, and it does not say whether essential services such as pharmacies are exempt.
Copies of the circular were sent “for kind information” to the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, the Superintendent of Police of Wokha, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Executive Officer of the Wokha Town Council, the Chairman of the Wokha Town Council and the Chairman of the Lotha Hoho.
All business units under the WDCC&I were copied “for strict compliance”.
Banks asked to shut separately
The chamber’s circular follows a separate directive issued on 4 November by the Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) and the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU), which told all banks operating in Wokha district to remain shut on 7 November for Tokhü Emong.
That directive asks banks to close for the full day, while the chamber’s circular covers business establishments for the morning hours only.
About Tokhü Emong
Tokhü Emong is the main post-harvest festival of the Lotha Naga community, celebrated in the first week of November. It marks the end of the harvest season and is observed with thanksgiving, feasting and the sharing of food among families and neighbours.
The festival is listed by the Nagaland government as a restricted holiday rather than a general public holiday, so government offices and banks are not required by law to close.
Residents planning to shop on Saturday may need to do so before 8 am or after 2 pm.
