Editorial Policy
Trust is the foundation of good journalism. This Editorial Policy sets out the principles that guide how Nagaland.news reports the news, so that you know what to expect from us and can hold us to it.
Accuracy
Accuracy is our first duty. We check facts before we publish, we seek information from reliable sources, and we do our best to represent people and events fairly and in context. When we are not certain of something, we say so, and we do not present speculation as fact.
Independence
Our reporting is independent. Editorial decisions are made by our newsroom on the basis of what is true and in the public interest, not on the basis of the wishes of advertisers, partners, political parties or any outside interest. Advertising and sponsored content are kept clearly separate from our journalism and are labelled as such.
Fairness and balance
We aim to be fair to everyone we report on. Where a story raises questions about the conduct of a person or organisation, we make reasonable efforts to give them the opportunity to respond, and we reflect their response fairly. We distinguish clearly between news reporting and opinion.
Sources
We prefer named, on the record sources, and we corroborate information wherever possible. We protect confidential sources who share information in the public interest and who could be placed at risk if identified. We do not pay for information in a way that would compromise its reliability.
Opinion
Opinion and analysis are clearly marked as such and represent the views of their authors, not necessarily those of Nagaland.news. We welcome a range of viewpoints and encourage informed debate conducted with respect.
Corrections
We will make mistakes, and when we do, we correct them openly and promptly. We do not quietly delete errors. Our full process is set out in our Corrections Policy.
Use of technology
We may use digital tools, including editing and research technology, to assist our work. Any such tools are used under human editorial oversight. Responsibility for what we publish always rests with our journalists and editors, and facts are verified by people.
Privacy and dignity
We report in the public interest while respecting the privacy and dignity of individuals, particularly children, victims of crime and vulnerable people. We weigh the public interest carefully against the potential for harm.
Accountability
We are accountable to our readers. If you have concerns about our reporting, or you believe we have fallen short of these standards, we want to hear from you. Please contact us at info@nagaland.news.
