Tangkhul Naga Long bans sale and bursting of firecrackers
The apex Tangkhul body's order, issued in Ukhrul on Friday, takes effect immediately and tells shopkeepers and residents to comply without exception.

UKHRUL – The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has banned the sale and bursting of firecrackers across its jurisdiction in Manipur with immediate effect, warning that anyone who violates the order will face action.
The order, issued from the TNL headquarters in Ukhrul on Friday, 6 November 2026, said the decision was taken as directed by the TNL president and by Resolution No. 02 of the TNL Executive Council meeting held the same day.
“It is hereby ordered to all concerned that, the sales and bursting of firecrackers within the Tangkhul Naga Long jurisdictions are strictly prohibited,” the order read.
Shopkeepers told to comply
The order said the ban “shall be strictly enforced” and directed all shopkeepers and residents to comply “without exception”.
“Any person found violating this order shall be held accountable and appropriate action shall be taken against them,” it said. The order did not say what form that action would take. Also Read Tangkhul Naga bodies seek SoO revocation in memo to PM
It was signed by Rinngacham Vashim, Additional Secretary of the Tangkhul Naga Long, and asked all residents to “extend their full cooperation for the interest of the entire community”.
No reason given
The order did not give a reason for the ban or say how long it would remain in force.
It comes two days before Diwali, which falls on 8 November this year, a period when firecrackers are widely sold across India. The TNL did not link its decision to the festival or to any other event.
Nagaland.News has sought comment from the TNL on the reasons for the ban and its duration. This report will be updated if a response is received.
