Tuensang Liquor Alert: Nagaland DGP Warns After 9 Deaths Reported

KOHIMA, September 12: Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma has issued an urgent public warning against the consumption of liquor following reports of at least nine deaths in Tuensang, with suspected spurious liquor believed to be involved.

The advisory, circulated by the Nagaland DGP, urges people to avoid consuming liquor, particularly in Tuensang, Mon, Mokokchung, Longleng, Kiphire, Shamator and Noklak.

According to the advisory, the deaths were reported from the District Hospital in Tuensang, while the liquor involved is suspected to be spurious and has been identified in the warning as “MC Rum.”

The advisory calls on people in the affected districts to exercise extreme caution and refrain from consuming liquor until further information is available.

The warning comes amid continuing concerns over the circulation of illicit and adulterated liquor in Nagaland. Police and enforcement agencies have previously seized illicit liquor, including bottles of MC Rum, in the state.
