The Naga Students’ Organization has strongly condemned what it described as repeated drone attacks on Naga civilians in Myanmar-occupied Nagaland, calling for accountability, civilian protection and an independent investigation into the reported incidents.

In a press statement issued on October 4, the organization expressed concern over what it described as continued drone attacks targeting innocent civilians by the Indian armed forces. It said such cross-border military actions raise serious concerns over state sovereignty, territorial integrity and the protection of civilians under international law.

The organization specifically referred to a reported drone attack in the early hours of October 3 at around 1 a.m. at Langkho Village in Lahe Township.

According to the NSO, two drones carried out the reported attack and dropped four bombs on a residential house located in the middle of the village. The organization stated that two bombs reportedly exploded, while two others failed to detonate and remained buried underground at the site. The NSO said the reported attack injured two civilians, including a nine-year-old Grade 5 schoolgirl and a male adult.

It further warned that the unexploded bombs continue to pose an immediate and serious danger to residents, particularly children and other civilians living nearby. According to the organization, no qualified personnel were currently available to safely locate, remove or defuse the unexploded ordnance.

Six civilians were in the affected house

The organization stated that six civilians were occupying the affected house and that none of them were armed or involved in any armed activity.

The NSO said the reported targeting of a civilian household in the middle of a village, where children and elderly people were present, was deeply alarming and should be treated with the utmost seriousness.

It also emphasized that any military operation conducted by the armed forces of one state within the territory of another state raises serious concerns under international law, particularly regarding sovereignty, territorial integrity and the prohibition of unlawful use of force.

NSO calls on India to investigate

The Naga Students’ Organization called on the Government of India to immediately and transparently investigate the reported incident and ensure that those responsible for unlawful conduct are held accountable in accordance with applicable Indian law and India’s international legal obligations.

It also urged the Indian armed forces to exercise the highest degree of restraint and ensure that military operations do not endanger innocent civilian communities across an international border. Also Read NSCN/FRGN Declares Kikheto Chishi President, Richard Naga Chakhesang Vice-Presiden

The organization said that where an armed conflict exists, international humanitarian law requires parties to distinguish between civilians and combatants and between civilian objects and military objectives.

It highlighted the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution in attack as fundamental protections for civilian populations.

Appeal to Myanmar government

The NSO also called on the Government of Myanmar not to remain silent or passive while repeated attacks against civilians are reported within Myanmar’s territory.

It said the Myanmar government has a responsibility to protect civilians, investigate reported violations, safeguard affected communities and raise such incidents through appropriate national, diplomatic and international channels.

“The safety and rights of civilians in Myanmar-occupied Nagaland must not be overlooked,” the organization said.

Calls for international attention

The organization further appealed to the United Nations, international human rights organizations, humanitarian agencies and other relevant international bodies to take note of the reported incidents.

It called for an independent, impartial and transparent investigation into drone attacks affecting civilian communities in Naga areas of Myanmar-occupied Nagaland.

The NSO also condemned what it described as acts of violence against unarmed civilians, particularly children and elderly people, and said civilian households should not be deliberately targeted or placed at unnecessary risk.

Calls for unity and protection of civilians

The organization urged the Naga people to remain united and peaceful amid continuing challenges, saying that division could leave vulnerable communities more exposed.

It expressed solidarity with the injured civilians and their families and extended its deepest sympathy to the affected family, while wishing those injured, particularly the young student, a speedy and full recovery.

The NSO concluded by urging all concerned authorities to prioritize the protection of civilians, respect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, uphold international law and take all necessary measures to prevent further attacks on civilian communities.

The allegations and account of the incident in this article are based on the Naga Students’ Organization’s press statement dated October 4, 2026.
